Differential Repair
The differential in a vehicle plays a crucial role in channeling engine power to the wheels and accommodating varying wheel speeds during turns. As a car turns, the inside wheel rotates slower than the outside wheel, which needs to move faster to match the inside wheel’s pace. The differential facilitates this by allowing the wheels to rotate at different speeds while ensuring the vehicle remains controlled and stable. Without a differential, a car would experience a rough and unstable ride, with hopping and jerking movements on the road. In four-wheel drive vehicles, differentials are present both in the front and back. In rear-wheel drive vehicles, the differential is located at the back. Front-wheel drive vehicles have a transaxle, which combines the functions of a differential and transmission, situated between the front wheels. All-wheel drive vehicles boast a differential for both front and rear wheels, with a transfer case assisting in balancing speed variations between them. The differential’s key function across all these configurations is to distribute and regulate power to the wheels.
