The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company was founded in 1900 by Harvey Firestone in the rubber capital of the world—Akron, Ohio. Harvey Firestone recognized the overwhelming potential for automobile tires, so he started mass-producing them. Firestone started with only 12 employees, so the company understands the importance of the individual. Every driver wants something different—and Firestone is prepared to give it to them.
Firestone became the original equipment supplier to Ford Motor Company for the Model T in 1906, and Firestone continued producing tires for the replacement market, which kept the business growing until 1988. In 1988, Firestone was purchased by Bridgestone Tire Company and is still owned by Bridgestone today.
